Web Host News Now

Hi,

I currently have a dedicated server at The Planet which hosts my master DNS + e-mail & sites, a VPS in the UK for slave dns and I use The Planet's nameservers as a 3rd and 4th nameserver.

I'm going to be moving the dedicated server setup to the UK so i'm wanting some provision for slave dns outside the UK so all the eggs are not in the same basket!

I've seen sites offering slave dns - can anyone make a recommendation?

Or am I better getting a VPS and setting up my own?

Either way it must be very cheap!

cirtex webhost is absouloutely horrible. it is SO SLOW. they either have way too many clients on their servers, or just the bottom of the barrel servers hosting their accounts. but i am not happy at all on this webhost.

ftp keeps dropping me when i am connected.
the website loads like its hosted on a 56k modem.
mysqldb constantly disconnects and causes my forums to not respond.

just horrible service all together. im looking for a new webhost.

the server goes to a crawl around 11pm pst for about 2 hours, and im told its due to their backup. i doubt that. the server is slow ALL the time. like a average message board, it will take 10-15 seconds to load just gif images and standard small stuff, where it should take only 2-5 seconds like this one loads.

its just a bad service all around.

I really want to use them considering what they offer. I just want to know what you think about them... Are they good, are they worth the $80 a year... Etc. I'm just looking for a basic site using them! (Clip-share, PHPpoker, gallery) And I think that's about it. How do you think they'll be with my site? Please I want to know before I spend money I probably won't see again, it's a non-profit web-site.

We have been experiencing problems with our current host mainly with members complaining our forum wont load at all and theyre getting timeouts and having to wait 5-10 minutes before they can access the site at all.

Were on shared hosting with EZPZ hosting and they have given us two private nameservers in hope that it may correct the problems. It has seemingly been fixed for the time being and the site seems to be loading fine now, however we are considering switching to a VPS.

At the moment they do not provide VPS hosting and only dedicated which are our of our budget. I have also been recommended by wesh.co.uk hosting that VPS hosting is no good for live communities. Is there a very fair priced, non oversold hosting company anyone can recommend?

Our community is only 6 months old but has grown quickly so we know we will need to upgrade within the next 6 months. We thought that our current shared hosting would be fine considering we dont have stupid amounts of members/guests at once but it has been awfully slow due to how it is oversold.

I hope for some non oversold shared sugesstions if possible too which has between 2-10gb diskspace and provides over 30gb bandwidth per month.

What do you guys think about them? I just bought a domain name from DynaDot so I'm looking for a good host. Is Hawk Host good? I read good things about them.
